Vietnam spent much on animal feed imports

(MARD - 25/03/2014) According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in 2013 Vietnam earned U.S. $ 2.95 billion from rice exports but spent U.S. $ 3 billion on animal feed and raw materials imports. Vietnam has spent over U.S. $ 4 billion on importing corn, soybeans and wheat. In the first two months of 2014, Vietnam has spent U.S. $ 375 million on feed and raw materials imports, up 4.7 % compared to the same period last year. Vietnam has imported 1.26 million tons of corn worth U.S. $ 326 million, seven times bigger in volume than the same period last year. Imports from Brazil and Thailand account for more than 90 %.

Rice exports to Africa are facing difficulties

(MARD - 26/04/2014) According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in the first three months of 2014, Vietnam's rice exports to Africa in general and to the Ivory Coast and Angola in particular faced more difficulties than the same period in 2013 due to the fierce competition of cheap rice from Thailand and India.

Vietnam is lack of supportive technology for wood processing industry

(MARD - 28/08/2013) Vietnam lost approximately 700 million dollars annually on importing accessories for the wood processing industry. The wood processing industry is of cutting-edge industries with an annual export value of more than 4.5 billion dollars. However, so far Vietnam has not had any supportive industry for furniture production.
